{"id":791551,"date":"2018-12-24T09:55:25","date_gmt":"2018-12-24T16:55:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=772493"},"modified":"2018-12-24T09:55:25","modified_gmt":"2018-12-24T16:55:25","slug":"new-york-city-to-rename-streets-after-notorious-b-i-g-wu-tang-clan-woody-guthrie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/new-york-city-to-rename-streets-after-notorious-b-i-g-wu-tang-clan-woody-guthrie\/","title":{"rendered":"New York City to Rename Streets After Notorious B.I.G., Wu-Tang Clan, Woody Guthrie"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/biggie-wutang-guthrie-streets.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"\/><\/div>\n<p>The New York City Council voted unanimously Friday to officially honor three of the five boroughs\u2019 most revered artists \u2013 the Notorious B.I.G., the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/wu-tang-clan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_wu-tang-clan\" data-tag=\"wu-tang-clan\">Wu-Tang Clan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/woody-guthrie\/\" id=\"auto-tag_woody-guthrie\" data-tag=\"woody-guthrie\">Woody Guthrie<\/a> \u2013 with streets named in their honor.<\/p>\n<p>The Brooklyn block where the Notorious B.I.G. grew up \u2013 located on St. James Place between Fulton Street and Gates Avenue \u2013 will be renamed Christopher Wallace Way after the rapper\u2019s birth name, while Staten Island\u2019s Vanderbilt Avenue and Targee Street will tentatively be called Wu-Tang Clan District, <a href=\"http:\/\/gothamist.com\/2018\/12\/21\/street_names_wu_tang_guthrie.php\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Gothamist reports<\/a>. In November, the Brooklyn Community Board 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/brooklyn-street-name-notorious-b-i-g-757054\/\">voted to approve<\/a> the re-naming petition of Christopher Wallace Way, setting the stage for Friday\u2019s vote.<\/p>\n<p>Cultural advocate LeRoy McCarthy spearheaded the efforts to rename the streets after the legendary hip-hop acts. \u201cI\u2019m happy that NYC officials are finally giving the city\u2019s indigenous \u2018Hip Hop\u2019 music the respect and recognition that it deserves.
