Pink Floyd<\/a> drummer Nick Mason<\/a> and Dunkirk<\/em> director Christopher Nolan<\/a> were among the more than 1,100 people recognized on Queen Elizabeth\u2019s New Year\u2019s Honours<\/a> list, which annually\u00a0honors \u201cthe achievements and service of extraordinary people across the United Kingdom.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mason, the lone Pink Floyd member to appear on every one of the band\u2019s albums, was named a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to music. Nolan received a CBE for his contributions to film.<\/p>\n

Other 2018 honorees actress Thandie Newton and The Handmaid\u2019s Tale<\/em> author Margaret Atwood, as well as damehood for fashion model Twiggy and a knighthood for Monty Python member Michael Palin, the BBC reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cDiscovering there were five other people who had the same sort of sense of humour as myself and we all appreciated each other\u2019s work and that the work that we did, both on television and film, is still being replayed and still being appreciated, that\u2019s quite something, really, after 50 years,\u201d Palin said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will be 50 years since Python started, next year. That\u2019s something that hit a high spot that will last forever, so I\u2019m very grateful to all the other Pythons and I am very proud of Python.\u201d<\/p>\n

In December 2017, Ringo Starr \u2013 who became a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire along with his Beatles band mates in 1965 \u2013 received knighthood<\/a> and became a \u201cSir\u201d as part of the New Year\u2019s Honours.<\/p>\n

Nick Mason\u2019s Saucerful of Secrets, the drummer\u2019s new live project<\/a> that focuses on Pink Floyd\u2019s pre-1973 music, will embark on their first American tour in 2019. Earlier this month, Mason spoke to Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> about the trek \u2013 which received the blessing of both Roger Waters and David Gilmour \u2013 and why it\u2019s unlikely Pink Floyd\u2019s surviving members will ever reunite.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the problem is Roger doesn\u2019t really respect David. He feels that writing is everything, and that guitar playing and the singing are something that, I won\u2019t say anyone can do, but that everything should be judged on the writing rather than the playing,\u201d Mason said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually get along with both of them, and I think it\u2019s really disappointing that these rather elderly gentlemen are still at loggerheads.\u201d<\/p>\n
