This week in history as reported by the Summit County Journal 100 years ago \u2014 Dec. 28, 1918<\/p>\n
Mrs. Eberlein who was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, April 27, 1850, died in her home in Breckenridge, Colorado, Dec. 21, 1918, aged 59 years, 7 months and 24 days.<\/p>\n
The year of her birth her father had come to Colorado and located on Delaware Flats at the south of Gold Run in Summit County.<\/p>\n
Having made a placer location, he returned to St. Joseph and brought his wife and children across the great plains in a covered wagon to his cabin home in the mountains.<\/p>\n
Here little Jeannette grew up into splendid girlhood. Having taken up a ranch on Tarryall below Como, the family moved to the new home.<\/p>\n
In 1874, the father was killed by a Ute Indian at their camp on the creek below the ranch.<\/p>\n

The recent 32-hour flight made by Lieut O.G. Null of Denver is to be submitted to the Aero Club of America by the United States naval station at Key West as the longest recorded flight ever made in a non-rigid dirigible balloon. Lieutenant Null had covered more than 600 miles when a leak forced them to land.<\/p>\n

Word comes from Steamboat Springs that indications are favorable for the striking of oil at the well being bored by the Twenty Mile Oil and Gas Company a short distance from that town.<\/p>\n
Rabbit Meat is Most Delicious<\/p>\n
Fifteen hundred boy and girl club members are raising rabbits in Tacoma, Washington, and more are constantly joining in the enterprise to produce cheap and delicious meat. All over the country the boys’ and girls’ clubs formed under the supervision of the department of agriculture in connection with the state agricultural college for the purpose of growing rabbits, are on the increase in size, number and popularity.<\/p>\n
