Adam Smith\u2019s bill to rechristen Renton Highlands Post Office as the James Marshall \u201cJimi\u201d Hendrix Post Office. The bill was signed into law last week after it passed unanimously.<\/p>\n<p>The post office, located in the Seattle suburb of Renton, is less than a mile from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/jimi-hendrix\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jimi-hendrix\" data-tag=\"jimi-hendrix\">Jimi Hendrix<\/a> Memorial in the Greenwood Memorial Park cemetery, where the rock legend is buried, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/entertainment\/music\/renton-post-office-renamed-to-honor-jimi-hendrix-while-new-exhibition-looks-at-icons-early-years\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">the <em>Seattle Times<\/em> reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am honored to join in paying tribute to rock and roll icon and Seattle native Jimi Hendrix with the renaming of the Renton Highlands Post Office as the James Marshall \u2018Jimi\u2019 Hendrix Post Office Building,\u201d Rep. Smith said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis designation will further celebrate Hendrix\u2019s deep connection to the Puget Sound region and help ensure that his creative legacy will be remembered by our community and inspire future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The renamed post office is the Seattle area\u2019s latest tribute to Hendrix, who was born and grew up in the city and attended the city\u2019s Garfield High School. In June 2017, the 2.5-acre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/jimi-hendrix-park-opens-to-public-in-seattle-after-years-of-delays-204335\/\">Jimi Hendrix Park opened<\/a> in Seattle\u2019s Central District \u2013 near his childhood home \u2013 after a decade of delays.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeattle will always be Jimi\u2019s home,\u201d Janie Hendrix, the guitarist\u2019s sister and president and CEO of Experience Hendrix, said at the time. \u201cThis very area is where Jimi grew up, where his dreams were cultivated and his creative energy awakened, in many ways.
