The dancers added hip-hop moves and some dramatic flare to the synth-laden, new-wave song as singer Christine showed off her own moves in a spotlight and deceptively sings, \u201cFocus on my voice and let go\u201d (as if you could focus on anything but the dancing).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In last year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/christine-and-the-queens-chris-interview-726233\/\"><span class=\"s2\"><em>Rolling Stone<\/em> feature<\/span><\/a> on the artist, who will be performing at this year\u2019s Coachella, she recalled how a trip to London, where she meet three drag queens, encouraged her to embrace pop music so she could combine her loves of theater and dance with singing. While making <em>Chris<\/em>, she drew inspiration from Michael Jackson\u2019s <em>Dangerous<\/em> (an obvious influence, judging from the dancing in the video) and early Nineties Janet Jackson. The appeal of those artists, she said, was that their sounds \u201ccould be warm, almost like flesh pulsing with blood, and still be minimalistic. They were building monsters of efficiency, but also flamboyance and extravaganza.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As for the songs on the album, she said she wanted to make \u201ccomplicated narratives.\u201d She said that they revolve around \u201cthis multi-faceted character of a woman who can be extremely lustful and extremely depressed, extremely powerful and extremely vulnerable. It\u2019s not just a pose. It\u2019s a reality for me.
