Kelly<\/a>-headlined music festival in Springfield.<\/p>\n<p>Spring Break Jam previously announced that Kelly would \u201chost\u201d the April 6th festival at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. However, in the aftermath of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv\/tv-features\/surviving-r-kelly-lifetime-docuseries-review-774317\/\">Surviving R. Kelly<\/a><\/em> and the subsequent protests against the singer, state officials denied the fest\u2019s permit due to security concerns, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/local\/breaking\/ct-met-r-kelly-springfield-concert-canceled-20190111-story.html\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">the <em>Chicago Tribune<\/em> reports<\/a>. Another protest was scheduled for Saturday morning outside Kelly\u2019s Chicago recording studio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey had just submitted an application, and unfortunately we can\u2019t control when an organizer begins promoting an event,\u201d Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) spokeswoman Denise Albert said after Spring Break Jam promoted the event before getting approval for the lease application for the fairground.<\/p>\n<p>.Albert added that the rejected permit was due to the protests following <em>Surviving R. Kelly<\/em> and not the allegations of sexual abuse against the singer. Because of the outcry stemming from the docuseries, Spring Break Jam organizers couldn\u2019t meet the criteria \u2013 including \u201cReasonably foreseeable problems with security caused by either the nature of the usage or the identity of the proposed lessee or his\/her patrons\u201d and \u201cThe welfare of the general community\u201d \u2013 necessary to obtain the fairgrounds permit.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for Spring Break Jam were already on sale when the IDOA made its decision; the ticketing page has since been pulled down.
