Indie pop outfit the Drums<\/a> unveiled a deceptively chipper, yet instantly infectious new song, \u201cBody Chemistry,\u201d that will appear on their forthcoming album, Brutalism<\/em>, out April 5th via Anti-.<\/p>\n

\u201cBody Chemistry\u201d finds a rumbling rush of drums anchored by a thick bass groove, over which Drums mastermind Jonny Pierce laces silky guitars and his inviting croon. His lyrics, meanwhile, expertly blend both humor and melancholy as he sings, \u201cI know some good luck\/And a\u00a0<\/span>good fuck\/A nice glass of wine\/And some quality time\/Is gonna make you mine\/But it\u2019s not what I\u2019m trying to find.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pierce said \u201cBody Chemistry\u201d was the first song he wrote for Brutalism<\/em>, adding that the song encapsulates the album\u2019s themes of self-care, anxiety and depression. \u201cFor the year prior to writing this song, I had been dealing with an increased feeling of depression,\u201d Pierce said. \u201cTo counter that, I was doing all I could do to try and make myself feel good: Implementing all sorts of self-care, going to therapy, eating well, exercising at the gym, taking a step back from partying, and focusing on positive relationships while weeding out the not-so-good ones. I still found myself weighed down with anxiety and depression. This song asks the question: Is this dull, sad feeling in my DNA? Is it part of my gene pool? Can it ever be corrected? I had been confronting some of my most stubborn demons, and I came to realize that confronting doesn\u2019t always mean conquering.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brutalism<\/em> follows the Drums\u2019 2017 album, Abysmal Thoughts<\/em>, and was recorded in Upstate New York and Stinson Beach, outside of San Francisco. The LP, which is available to pre-order, also marks the first Drums album to be recorded with a live drummer.<\/p>\n

The Drums will also embark on a North American tour in support of Brutalism<\/em> this spring. The trek kicks\u00a0off April 24th in Tustin, California and wraps May 23rd in Austin, Texas. Ticket information is available via the band\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
