The back half of Migos\u2019<\/a> 2018 was not their most creatively rewarding stretch of their carer. Quavo\u2019s solo project<\/a> was critically panned, Takeoff\u2019s The Last Rocket<\/em><\/a> fared slightly better and Offset didn\u2019t bother dropping his promised solo effort as he sifted through a messy maybe-divorce<\/a>. The group passed the then-hypothetical point of oversaturation, and it began to feel like they had little left to say. At least until Mustard delivered \u201cPure Water\u201d on Wednesday, and immediately proves that the Migos are always welcome when they make something that bangs.<\/p>\n

Jittery, galactic and pulsating, the beat sounds like what would happen if Skrillex had scored Jason Momoa\u2019s Aquaman.<\/em>\u00a0There are layers to \u201cPure Water.\u201d First is the chorus that features Quavo honoring Master P\u2019s classic \u201cMake \u2018Em Say Uhh!\u201d as he raps, \u201cUh, no Master P.\u201d It looks stupid written out \u2014 I\u2019m sorry \u2014 but sounds very good in the context of the song, and you can hit play right now to hear it for yourself. Then, as if the chorus wasn\u2019t insane enough, Quavo raps, \u201cTook your bitch out the game, I had to sub her\u201d and immediately ad-libs \u201cSwap, swap.\u201d Offset, not to be outdone, raps, \u201cI\u2019m Ricky Bobby with your bitch.\u201d I am still trying to decipher what, exactly, he means. Takeoff uses his time on mic to reveal he believes in tipping waitresses fairly for their thankless job, as long as they keep the ones coming.<\/p>\n

All in all, after a wait, it\u2019s a good day to be a Migos fan again.<\/p>\n
