1. Video captures moose chasing skiers Saturday at Breckenridge Ski Resort<\/a><\/p>\n This online video-story combination was the winner for the week by a landslide. Hoping to warn others about the dangers of moose, a Summit County woman posted on Instagram a video she captured of one charging skiers and snowboarders Saturday at Breckenridge Ski Resort. Lauren “Lo” Drogsvold recounted the story of riding up on a large bull moose while making her way down Four O’Clock Run. A crowd had gathered, as usual in these situations, and a few seconds, the moose began to approach the crowd. Drogsvold said she then started recording as she yelled at people to move and move fast while she began to ski away. With her phone still recording, Drogsvold captured only a few seconds of the moose chasing skiers and snowboarders before she dove off the trail and hid behind a nearby tree. Check out the video if you haven’t yet at summitdaily.com.<\/p>\n 2. ‘It’s a huge safety concern’: Illegal parking a problem near Arapahoe Basin Ski Area<\/a><\/p>\n Law enforcement agencies are cracking down on illegal parking along Highway 6 as skiers flock to Arapahoe Basin Ski Area to partake in the abundance of snow. As the parking lots fill up and overflow spills out to the highway, Colorado State Patrol says the illegal parking causes issues for big vehicles coming through the pass and can also be a safety issue. Earlier this season, Arapahoe Basin rolled out a new parking plan to help ease some stress and take cars off the highway, including reserving 200 parking spaces in the Early Riser lot for individuals participating in carpools of four or more people (or those willing to pay an extra $20 to park).<\/p>\n “You have people walking in the roadway, usually in snowboarding or ski boots that aren’t the best to be walking in on the highway,” said Colin Remillard, a spokesperson with Colorado State Patrol. “They could fall, or just not have the same foot dexterity. And when you have cars going by at 35-40 miles-per-hour on icy roads there’s not a lot of room for error. It’s a huge safety concern.”<\/p>\n 3. Canadian accused of kicking and spitting on Breckenridge, Frisco police pleads guilty to assault<\/a><\/p>\n Shawna Barclay Calhoun, 21, who was arrested after kicking and spitting on law enforcement officers during an altercation in Breckenridge late last year, pleaded guilty to assault charges in county court last week. During her hearing at the Summit County Justice Center on Tuesday, Calhoun pleaded guilty to felony second-degree assault and received a four year deferred judgment and sentence that includes ordered mental health and alcohol treatment. Calhoun also pleaded guilty to third degree assault, a class one misdemeanor, and will be forced to pay more than $500 in fines. Because Calhoun is a Canadian national, she is ineligible for probation. She’s expected to return to Canada sometime this week.<\/p>\n 4. Ohio man thankful to be alive after bystanders resuscitate him on Vail Mountain<\/a><\/p>\n An Ohio man is alive and well after suffocating upside down in deep snow in Vail Mountain’s Marmot Valley before some other skiers and snowboarders, including a CPR-certified doctor, came to his rescue. In this story from the Vail Daily, Michael Laush’s rescuers recount the terrifying moments from when a woman first came upon him and began screaming for help, to when others stopped to pull the buried skier out from under the snow and perform CPR on him.<\/p>\n “When I got there, there were two ski boots sticking out of the snow,” said Tom Nern, who helped in the rescue.<\/p>\n Laush had no pules and wasn’t breathing when he was pulled out, and two rescuers began CPR, eventually reviving the man.<\/p>\n “It’s crazy to me that he came back \u2014 he was gone,” said Karen Nern, who, along with Beth McCrann, performed CPR on the skier. “Three rounds of chest compressions and he was back.”<\/p>\nRecommended Stories For You<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
