{"id":792526,"date":"2019-01-30T07:28:00","date_gmt":"2019-01-30T14:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=786283"},"modified":"2019-01-30T07:28:00","modified_gmt":"2019-01-30T14:28:00","slug":"pandoras-ceo-roger-lynch-exits-as-siriusxm-takes-over","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/pandoras-ceo-roger-lynch-exits-as-siriusxm-takes-over\/","title":{"rendered":"Pandora\u2019s CEO Roger Lynch Exits As SiriusXM Takes Over"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/9722407fkW.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"\/><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/pandora\/\" id=\"auto-tag_pandora\" data-tag=\"pandora\">Pandora<\/a>\u2019s stockholders have just approved SiriusXM\u2019s $3.5 billion acquisition of the digital music company, which now involves the exit of Pandora CEO Roger Lynch and the installation of SiriusXM CEO Jim Meyer in his place.<\/p>\n<p>Following a special stockholder meeting on Tuesday in which 97 percent of votes cast were in favor of the transaction, Pandora announced via press release that Lynch \u2014 who has run Pandora since September 2017, taking it from dire straits to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/pandora-media-radio-siriusxm-and-crisis-725663\/\">profitable audio and advertising enterprise<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 will step down from the company once the deal officially goes through. Pandora\u2019s chief financial officer Naveen Chopra, chief human resources officer Kristen Robinson and general counsel Steve Bene will also depart the company, leaving Meyer in charge of the new, combined entity. \u201cThe transaction is expected to close shortly, subject to customary closing conditions,\u201d Pandora wrote in a note to investors. \u201cAssuming completion of the transaction, shares of Pandora common stock are expected to be delisted from trading on the New York Stock Exchange.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The executive departures were not previously announced as part of the takeover deal. When SiriusXM revealed last fall that it was buying the smaller digital media company to form one major audio-entertainment enterprise, both Lynch and Meyer highlighted the \u201csignificant opportunities\u201d in joining together the two services\u2019 distinct offerings \u2014 Sirius\u2019s business has historically been focused in cars, while Pandora users are more spread out across computers, phones and other audio devices \u2014 but did not note leadership changes in the companies themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe think there\u2019s a big opportunity in what we call internally the \u2018new era of audio,&#8217;\u201d Lynch, speaking about Pandora\u2019s product plans, told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> last year. \u201cThink of all these devices like smart speakers growing in popularity and the growth of new audio formats like podcasting.
