Pendergrass\u2019 famed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/movies\/movie-news\/mike-myers-ode-to-a-rock-roll-zelig-inside-supermensch-125504\/\">former manager, Shep Gordon<\/a>, served as one of the film\u2019s executive producers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em>If You Don\u2019t Know Me<\/em> will chronicle Pendergrass\u2019 entire career, from his childhood in Philadelphia during the Sixties to his rise to fame as the lead singer of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, and then as a solo artist. It will also look at Pendergrass\u2019 remarkable comeback after a 1982 car crash nearly killed him. While the accident paralyzed Pendergrass from the chest down, he went on to deliver an emotional performance at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/live-aid-1985-the-day-the-world-rocked-180152\/\">Live Aid in 1985<\/a> and release five more albums. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-lists\/remembering-teddy-pendergrass-the-rb-greats-life-in-photos-207035\/\">Pendergrass died<\/a> in 2010.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In an October interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2018\/tv\/news\/teddy-pendergrass-if-you-dont-know-me-sky-bbc-showtime-1202989506\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Variety<\/em><\/a>, Lichtenstein noted that the car crash likely prevented Pendergrass from becoming a huge mainstream star like Marvin Gaye or Luther Vandross.
