The North Carolina label \u2013 started by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/superchunk\/\" id=\"auto-tag_superchunk\" data-tag=\"superchunk\">Superchunk<\/a> in 1989, which released breakthroughs by Arcade Fire, Neutral Milk Hotel and others \u2013\u00a0just started a vinyl subscription service, and it will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a four-day festival of the label\u2019s all-stars. The initial lineup, announced today, includes Superchunk, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/destroyer\/\" id=\"auto-tag_destroyer\" data-tag=\"destroyer\">Destroyer<\/a>, the Mountain Goats, Waxahatchee,\u00a0Lambchop,\u00a0Ibibio Sound Machine,\u00a0Hiss Golden Messenger,\u00a0Wye Oak and more. More performers will be announced soon.<\/p>\n<p>The fest, MRG30, will happen July 24-27, 2019 in Carrboro and Durham, North Carolina. Passes go on sale Friday, February 8th and cost $215. More information is on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mergerecords.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">the Merge website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Merge\u2019s vinyl subscription service, called <em>Born Under a Good Sign<\/em>, just kicked off with a crew of Merge artists performing David Bowie\u2019s album Heroes. The 25th anniversary show, held in 2014, featured Neutral Milk Hotel and Sueprchunk, while the 20th anniversary bash included Conor Oberst, Spoon and more.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Merge\u2019s CEO Laura Ballance <a href=\"https:\/\/sheshredsmag.com\/laura-ballance-merge-records-ceo-superchunk-bassist-and-1-badass\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">described<\/a> what makes a great Merge artist: \u201cWe are definitely attracted to people who are self-sufficient, resourceful, and think about growing like we did\u2014slowly and patiently. We\u2019ve never stuck to one genre. Our musical taste is diverse, as I think most people\u2019s is.
