First up was Post Malone\u2019s \u201cStay\u201d and \u201cRockstar.\u201d They finished with the Chilis\u2019 \u201cDark Necessities,\u201d a single off their 2016 LP\u00a0<em>The Getaway<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Malone kicked off the performance solo, playing an acoustic guitar and sitting on a stool as he sang \u201cStay\u201d into a gold-tipped mic. Then the stage went dark, and he emerged again from a smokey tunnel singing \u201cRockstar.\u201d Then the Chilis kicked things off with a chill version of \u201cDark Necessities\u201d with Malone chipping in on vocals and guitar. During the song, Malone rushed Chad Smiths drum riser and mugged at Flea who wiggled his way in the rapper\u2019s direction. Kiedis ditched his shirt and flung himself about the stage during Josh Klinghoffer\u2019s feedbacky guitar solo, eventually giving a hug to Malone at the end.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SysS8Oiakaw?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Post Malone recently teamed with another veteran rock crew when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/watch-aerosmith-post-malone-21-savage-close-out-mtv-vmas-with-toys-in-the-attic-713471\/\">he performed \u201cToys in the Attic\u201d<\/a> and \u201cDream On\u201d with Aerosmith at last year\u2019s MTV VMAs.<\/p>\n<p>The rapper was up for four awards this year. His track \u201cRockstar\u201d is up for both Record of the Year and Best Rap\/Sung Performance, <em>Beerbongs &amp; Bentleys<\/em> is up for Album of the Year and his song \u201cBetter Now\u201d is up for Best Pop Solo Performance. Prior to the broadcast, though, \u201cBetter Now\u201d lost to Lady Gaga and Mark Ronson\u2019s \u201c(Joanne) Where Do You Think You\u2019re Goin?\u201d and \u201cRockstar\u201d lost the Best Rap\/Sung Performance trophy to Childish Gambino for \u201cThis Is America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Post Malone was also slated to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/21-savage-scheduled-to-perform-at-grammys-791170\/\">perform with 21 Savage<\/a> at the Grammys, in a separate performance from the one with the Chilis, but the Savage was arrested by ICE. Post Malone\u2019s most recent release was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/post-malone-swae-lee-sunflower-video-watch-777591\/\">video for \u201cSunflower,\u201d<\/a> his collaboration with Swae Lee for the <em>Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse<\/em> soundtrack.<\/p>\n<p>Red Hot Chili Peppers have been nominated 12 times for Grammys and won three over the course of their career. In 1992, they took home the trophy for Best Hard Rock Performance With Vocal for \u201cGive It Away.\u201d In 2006, they won Grammys for their album <em>Stadium Arcadium<\/em> (Best Rock Album and for the song \u201cDani California\u201d (Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal).
