Travis Scott<\/a> took the stage at the 2019 Grammy Awards to perform a couple of songs off his Grammy-nominated album\u00a0Astroworld<\/em> during the 61st annual ceremony in Los Angeles. He performed \u201cStop Trying to Be God\u201d with one of the collaborators on the song, Philip Bailey, and its cowriter, James Blake, before transitioning to a rendition of the LP\u2019s \u201cNo Bystanders.\u201d<\/p>\n

James Blake and the Earth, Wind and Fire horns helped out Scott, with extra vocals by Philip Bailey, for a somber rendition of \u201cStop Trying to Be God.\u201d Scott simply sat down and meditated on the song\u2019s somber mood. And then things changed for \u201cNo Bystanders.\u201d Scott jumped in a cage and a legion of kids stormed the stage to jump, with some of them climbing the state around Scott as he started rapping \u201cNo Bystanders.\u201d It looked like something akin to\u00a0Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome\u00a0<\/em>or a Nine Inch Nails video. As smoke enveloped everyone, he climbed over and crowdsurfed, saying, \u201cLet\u2019s go. Let\u2019s go.\u201d He finished out the song rapping right into a camera as the cadre of fans bounced with him to a chorus of \u201cFuck the club up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scott\u2019s performance on Music\u2019s Biggest Night comes just a week after he performed in front of a stadium full of football fans \u2014 and nearly 100 million viewers at home \u2014\u00a0during the Super Bowl LIII halftime concert<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At Atlanta\u2019s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the rapper descended onto to the stage via meteor for his one-song appearance, with the rapper delivering a modestly censored rendition of his \u201cSicko Mode\u201d amid the Maroon 5-headlined show.<\/p>\n

Scott was up for three awards at the 2019 Grammys: Best Rap Album for Astroworld<\/em> and Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for \u201cSicko Mode.\u201d He lost the latter two awards prior to the broadcast. While the rapper was previously Grammy-nominated for both featured appearances (SZA\u2019s \u201cLove Galore\u201d) and songwriting (Kanye West\u2019s \u201cNew Slaves\u201d), this year\u2019s ceremony marks the first time Scott has been recognized for his own music.<\/p>\n

\u201cA real driver on [Astroworld<\/em>] too was when we got snubbed for the Grammys in 2016,\u201d Scott\u2019s A&R\u00a0told\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>\u00a0in 2018. \u201cWe were like, man, are they not respecting us? That\u2019s when it was like, \u2018No, y\u2019all got it fucked up.\u2019 We went back and wanted to make an album that was undeniable.\u201d However, Astroworld<\/em> was snubbed<\/a> when it came to Album of the Year.<\/p>\n
