{"id":793052,"date":"2019-02-14T12:13:08","date_gmt":"2019-02-14T19:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=794740"},"modified":"2019-02-14T12:13:08","modified_gmt":"2019-02-14T19:13:08","slug":"journey-to-release-frontiers-and-escape-live-album-from-2017-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/journey-to-release-frontiers-and-escape-live-album-from-2017-tour\/","title":{"rendered":"Journey To Release \u2018Frontiers\u2019 and \u2018Escape\u2019 Live Album From 2017 Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/9241436bjW.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"\/><\/div>\n<p>In February 2017, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/journey\/\" id=\"auto-tag_journey\" data-tag=\"journey\">Journey<\/a> went to Japan for a special show at Tokyo\u2019s Budokan that featured a complete performance of 1981\u2019s <em>Escape<\/em> and 1983\u2019s <em>Frontiers<\/em> at the request of legendary Japanese concert promoter Mr. Udo in honor of his 50th anniversary in the business. \u201cThere\u2019s a few songs I don\u2019t even recall playing, like [the <em>Frontiers<\/em> track] \u2018Troubled Child,\u201d Journey guitarist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/journeys-neal-schon-on-rock-hall-induction-possible-steve-perry-reunion-109972\/\">Neal Schon told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> at the time.<\/a> \u201cDigging back into that stuff has been a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A camera crew was there to capture the entire night and it\u2019s coming out as a CD\/DVD package on March 29th under the title <em>Live In Japan 2017: Escape + Frontiers.<\/em> The two albums feature many of Journey\u2019s most enduring songs, including \u2018Don\u2019t Stop Believin\u2019,\u201d \u201cFaithfully,\u201d \u201cSeparate Ways\u201d and \u201cOpen Arms,\u201d but the show also allowed them to play tunes like \u201cLay It Down\u201d and \u201cBack Talk\u201d that hadn\u2019t been attempted in decades. In May of that same year, they repeated the show during a four-night stand at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/krYb5pN6ISw?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Journey played a wildly successful tour with Def Leppard last year that packed arenas all over North America and even a handful of stadiums. They haven\u2019t played together since a one-off show in Reno, Nevada on December 16th and say they are taking most of 2019 off, though they may play a few shows near the end of the year. In the meantime, Journey singer Arnel Pineda is keeping himself busy with a solo tour where he plays classic rock hits like \u201cStairway To Heaven,\u201d \u201cDream On,\u201d \u201cBack in Black,\u201d \u201cWe Are The Champions\u201d and, amazingly enough, not a single Journey song.<\/p>\n<p>Schon is doing the complete opposite on his <a href=\"https:\/\/schonmusic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><em>Journey Through Time<\/em><\/a> tour, where he\u2019s teaming up with original Journey singer\/keyboardist Gregg Rolie and former Journey drummer Deen Castronovo to resurrect songs from Journey\u2019s earliest albums along with a smattering of Eighties hits.
