Three days after 21 Savage<\/a> was released on bond<\/a> from one of the worst ICE detention centers in the country<\/a>, he sat down for his first interview. During brief conversation on Good Morning America<\/em>, Savage (real name She\u2019yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph) admitted that he felt his arrest \u201cwas definitely targeted.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think the policy is broken. I feel like the way that they enforce the policy is broken,\u201d Abraham-Joseph said.<\/p>\n

He described what he witnessed during the arrest. \u201cI was just driving and I just seen guns and blue lights. And then I was in the back of a car and I was gone.\u201d According to Abraham-Joseph, the authorities didn\u2019t reveal why he was being apprehended, \u201cThey didn\u2019t say nothing. They just said, \u2018We got Savage.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Abraham-Joseph was arrested by ICE on Super Bowl Sunday<\/a>. Bryan Cox, a spokesperson for the organization, made sure to mention in a statement to CNN\u2019s Nick Valencia<\/a> that the rapper\u2019s \u201cwhole public persona is false.\u201d Later in the interview, Abraham-Joseph delved into his early childhood. He knew he was born in England, but explains that he didn\u2019t understand how his immigration status would affect him later in life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know what a visa was. I was seven when first I came here. I knew I wasn\u2019t born here, but I didn\u2019t know what that meant as far as when I transitioned into an adult, how it was going to affect my life. I wasn\u2019t hiding it, but it\u2019s like I didn\u2019t want to get deported. So I\u2019m not finna just come out and be like, \u2018Hey, by the way, I wasn\u2019t born here, world.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Alex Spiro, one of the lawyers brought in my Jay-Z, later explained that the case is \u201ctroubling\u201d and described the various reasons why Abraham-Joseph was targeted.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe honestly that he was targeted of course, like they said. Part of the reason we think is because he\u2019s both a celebrity and they can use this to send a message and also perhaps, because of his music.\u201d<\/p>\n
