Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr<\/a> will embark on a new leg of solo tour dates this spring in support of his recent album, Call the Comet<\/em>. The 19-date trek kicks off in late April in Atlanta and wraps around the U.S. before ending in Los Angeles in May. Tickets are already on sale on Marr\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t call it a concept record,\u201d Marr told Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em> of how Trump and Brexit inspired Call the Comet<\/em>. \u201cBut it\u2019s got a unifying theme going through it about the Earth welcoming a different intelligence from the cosmos to save us from our own plight. The title\u00a0Call the Comet<\/em>\u00a0is sort of a conscious plea for a new way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beyond Call the Comet<\/em>, Marr last year released a cover of the Lovin\u2019 Spoonful\u2019s \u201cSummer in the City\u201d<\/a> that he\u2019d recorded with the The\u2019s Matt Johnson. Marr was once a member of the The, playing with them from 1988 through 1994. Johnson and Marr had given the song a live premiere at London\u2019s Roundhouse last year; Marr made audio of the live version available as part of a live album last year. \u201cIt\u2019s been great to record with Matt again and to play alongside his amazing voice,\u201d Marr said in a statement. \u201cThe The is part of my life and we both always loved \u2018Summer in the City.\u2019 We\u2019ve made it our own.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year, Marr also recently sat down with Rolling Stone<\/em> for an installment of the magazine\u2019s Music Now podcast<\/a> for a discussion of the Smiths\u2019 breakup. \u201cThe differences in personalities are what often make for interesting chemistry, and inevitably the differences in personality comes a point when those things are gonna stop forward motion, I guess,\u201d he said. \u201cI suppose as well, me and\u00a0Morrissey\u00a0just saw our futures differently. \u2026 I just didn\u2019t see my future being in that group anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
