The trailer for the upcoming documentary, Leaving Neverland<\/em>, shows the story of two men who claim Michael Jackson<\/a> sexually abused them as children. The two-part film tells the stories of James Safechuck and Wade Robson, who claim Jackson molested them and swore them to secrecy. The first episode will air on HBO on March 3rd.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe days were filled with magical, childhood adventure experiences,\u201d Robson says. \u201c[It was] playing tag, watching movies, eating junk food, anything you could ever want as a child.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like hanging out with a friend that\u2019s more your age,\u201d says Safechuck.<\/p>\n

The accusers\u2019 mothers says that Jackson seemed to be into \u201ckid things\u201d and that he was a \u201cloving, caring kind soul\u201d alongside footage of Jackson wishing Robson a happy birthday in a personal video (\u201cI love you,\u201d Jackson says). The men later sued Jackson\u2019s estate in 2013, but their charges were dismissed in 2017.<\/p>\n

It also details the oath of secrecy Jackson swore one of the boys to. \u201cHe told me that if [people] ever found out what we were doing, he and I would go to jail for the rest of our lives,\u201d Robson says.<\/p>\n

When the film got a premiere at Sundance, Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em> wrote<\/a> that audiences were \u201cshellshocked.\u201d Jackson\u2019s estate responded by calling the picture \u201ca public lynching.\u201d \u00a0\u201cThe creators of this film were not interested in the truth,\u201d it said in\u00a0a statement<\/a>. \u201cThey never interviewed a single solitary soul who knew Michael except the two perjurers and their families. That is not journalism, and it\u2019s not fair, \u00adyet the media are perpetuating these stories.\u201d<\/p>\n

Filmmaker Dan Reed disagreed with those claims in an interview with Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, saying that neither Robson nor Safechuck were paid to do interviews in the films. He also said that he kept the men separate, so they wouldn\u2019t influence each other\u2019s interviews. They met as adults for the first time at Sundance. \u201cWhat they\u2019ve been through has taught them that there\u2019s no point in getting angry,\u201d he said of how they\u2019ve dealt with telling their stories. \u201cThere\u2019s no point in hating. It doesn\u2019t get you anywhere. It only hurts you.\u201d<\/p>\n
