No artist since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-beatles\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-beatles\" data-tag=\"the-beatles\">the Beatles<\/a> in 1964 \u2014 with \u201cCan\u2019t Buy Me Love,\u201d \u201cTwist and Shout\u201d and \u201cDo You Want to Know a Secret?\u201d \u2014 laid claim to the three most popular songs in the country at once, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/8498841\/ariana-grande-top-3-spots-hot-100\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><em>Billboard<\/em><\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/ariana-grande-thank-u-next-album-review-793887\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Thank U, Next<\/em><\/a> continues to be a defining moment for the artist after a turbulent year. Grande\u2019s fifth studio album is her second number one record in six months and at 360,000 total copies sold, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/charts-ariana-grande-thank-u-next-number-one-796047\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">best sales week of her career<\/a>. Before tying the Fab Four\u2019s record, Savan Kotecha \u2014 a frequent Ariana collaborator and co-writer of four <em>Thank U, Next<\/em> tracks \u2014 presciently compared the singer to another Sixties rock icon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way that Jimi Hendrix was with a guitar, Ariana Grande is like that with vocals,\u201d Kotecha told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/ariana-grande-thank-u-next-savan-kotecha-interview-791280\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>. \u201cWhen the producer or engineer is not understanding what she wants [from the vocal arrangement], she just goes, \u201cdo you mind if I sit and do it?\u201d She\u2019ll go into Pro Tools and fix it. She\u2019s a master of the craft. I\u2019ve been around some of the greatest singers of all time. I\u2019ve never seen anything like this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The latest album was recorded following the tragic death of Grande\u2019s ex-boyfriend, the rapper Mac Miller. She joined collaborators Kotecha, Max Martin and\u00a0Victoria\u00a0Mon\u00e9t and ended up making <em>Thank U, Next<\/em> in two weeks. It is also notable that nine of the album\u2019s 12 songs have two or more female writers \u2014 a first on a Grande project. As the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/how-ariana-grande-made-thank-u-next-album-792233\/\">collaborators explained<\/a> to <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>:\u00a0\u201cIn My Head\u201d took just 12 hours from start to finish, according to Denisia Andrews and Brittany \u201cChi\u201d Coney.
