{"id":793354,"date":"2019-02-22T14:48:00","date_gmt":"2019-02-22T21:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/breckenridge-artist-reach-agreement-on-troll-sculpture\/"},"modified":"2019-02-25T10:30:49","modified_gmt":"2019-02-25T17:30:49","slug":"breckenridge-artist-reach-agreement-on-troll-sculpture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/local-news\/breckenridge-artist-reach-agreement-on-troll-sculpture\/","title":{"rendered":"Breckenridge, artist reach agreement on troll sculpture"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/02\/brf-troll-SDN-022319.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/02\/brf-troll-SDN-022319.jpg 620w, https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/02\/brf-troll-SDN-022319-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\"\/><figcaption><strong>Children visit \u201cIsak Heartstone,\u201d a 15-foot wooden troll about a mile up the Wellington Trail, on Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, in Breckenridge.<\/strong><br \/>Hugh Carey \/ hcarey@summitdaily.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">After taking down a wooden troll in November, a reimagined version of the sculpture will be coming to Breckenridge this spring, though exactly where it might go has not been announced.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">In a Friday news release, Breckenridge town staff said they have reached a contract with the sculpture\u2019s creator, artist Thomas Dambo, in partnership with Breckenridge Creative Arts, effective Jan. 17.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Additionally, the release adds there will be an open house from 6-7 p.m., March 4, at the Breckenridge Recreation Center, 880 Airport Road, where residents will learn more about the process, location and logistics for the rebuild.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cStaff will be on hand to answer questions regarding trail work, transit, management solutions and public outreach and education,\u201d the release adds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The open house follows the mid-November de-installation of the troll named \u201cIsak Heartstone,\u201d created as part of a summer arts festival organized by Breckenridge Creative Arts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The idea was to leave the troll, a reward for venturing out into the woods, in place for as long as the sculpture wasn\u2019t vandalized and withstood the element, which the artist has said would be about three years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Facing an onslaught of troll traffic on a trail that ran directly behind homes in the Wellington neighborhood, though, residents voiced concerns about the troll before the town\u2019s elected leaders ultimately decided to remove it citing safety concerns following a couple heavy snows this fall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">After removing the troll, a troll task force was formed, including town staff, representatives of Breckenridge Creative Arts and the Breckenridge Tourism Office, and community members.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The group has met regularly since November to work on a potential relocation with possible new locations and potential management strategies in mind. Criteria included walkability, access to transit and community impact, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The timeline for the rebuild will be seven to eight workdays in mid-May, but specific dates have not yet been determined.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Taking apart the sculpture, a number of pieces were saved, and the town is describing the new sculpture as \u201ca reimagined version of Dambo\u2019s first Breckenridge sculpture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cWe are extremely excited to have reached an agreement in this process,\u201d Councilwoman Wendy Wolfe said in the release. \u201cOur committee has been working very hard, and we are confident in the outcome.
