Morrissey<\/a> unveiled a fittingly dramatic rendition of Roy Orbison<\/a>\u2019s 1964 track, \u201cIt\u2019s Over.\u201d The song will appear on the musician\u2019s upcoming covers album, California Son<\/em>, out May 24th.<\/p>\n

Morrissey\u2019s arrangement is fairly faithful to the original<\/a>, blending orchestral elements with marching drums and dreamy guitars, though he still injects the track with his own distinct style of grandeur while guest singer LP lends the track an operatic edge. Most striking is Morrissey\u2019s vocal performance, his baritone quivering in that quintessential Orbison way as he sings, \u201cBut oh what will you do, when she says to you\/There\u2019s someone new, we\u2019re through, we\u2019re through\/It\u2019s over it\u2019s over it\u2019s over.\u201d<\/p>\n

Along with his Oribson cover, Morrissey\u2019s California Son<\/em> will feature renditions of songs by Joni Mitchell (\u201cDon\u2019t Interrupt the Sorrow\u201d), Bob Dylan (\u201cOnly a Pawn in Their Game\u201d), Dionne Warwick (\u201cLoneliness Remembers What Happens Forgets\u201d) and Carly Simon (\u201cWhen You Close Your Eyes\u201d). The record will also boast guest appearances from Green Day\u2019s Billie Joe Armstrong, Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear, Ariel Engle of Broken Social Scene, Petra Haden and more.<\/p>\n

California Son<\/em> is available to pre-order<\/a> and follows Morrissey\u2019s 2017 album, Low in High School<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n
