The song follows the previously released LP tracks \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/stephen-malkmus-rushing-the-acid-frat-video-795070\/\">Rushing the Acid Frat<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/stephen-malkmus-groove-denied-interview-780840\/\">Viktor Borgia<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the song\u2019s accompanying lyric video, a series of paintings solely featuring the singer line an empty gallery. As the camera pans across the various pieces of artwork \u2013 which depict him in various outfits that range from suits to ruffled shirts; in some he strikes campy poses with a sword or dons a guitar and smiles, in others he looks serious and pensive \u2013 he seeks escape via the lyrics. \u201cWon\u2019t someone come get me\/I\u2019m all alone here I can\u2019t see,\u201d he sings over resonant melodies and a loping beat. It culminates in his falsetto-reaching repeated plea of \u201csomebody come get me please I\u2019m alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/stephen-malkmus-groove-denied-interview-780840\/\"><em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> that he started working on <em>Groove Denied<\/em> about three years ago. He began writing the synth-pop laden solo excursion on a refurbished Memorymoog synthesizer and some demos for Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/review-stephen-malkmus-the-jicks-sparkle-hard-is-full-of-golden-guitars-and-warm-vibes-629116\/\"><em>Sparkle Hard<\/em><\/a>, which was released last year, also came from that time period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an open palette,\u201d he said. \u201cThere was a lot of scrolling through [synth] presets, saying, \u2018I like that sound.\u2019 I didn\u2019t ask anybody if something\u2019s dated or hip. It\u2019s kind of like being a kid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In May, Malkmus embarks on a solo tour in support of <em>Groove Denied<\/em>.
