English songwriter Tom Wardle<\/a> was having a hard time sleeping one night at his friend\u2019s house in Los Angeles, so he went outside and stood in the driveway and stared at the Hollywood sign. \u201cI really had no money, but at least the sun was coming out,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

The next day, Wardle went home and wrote \u201cJacqueline,\u201d a sweet, folksy ballad with gritty vocals that echo Rod Stewart. With lyrics like, \u201cWe\u2019re high in the hills\/With our head in the clouds,\u201d the song feels like a California dream.<\/p>\n

Wardle began performing at bars and parties in his hometown of Nottingham, England at the age of 18. \u201cJacqueline\u201d is about the changes he experienced when he moved to the States in 2017. \u201cMy move was inspired by the imagery of Beach Boys songs and promises of endless summer,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s definitely got a lot of soul, that song. I\u2019m really proud of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
