The prog\/sludge-metal quartet previewed the album with a psychedelic new song, \u201cBorderlines,\u201d which winds through funky basslines, ear-splitting distortion, harmonized guitar solos and intricate grooves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Throughout the track, singer-guitarist John Baizley belts shadowy lyrics about being haunted by his demons. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, but the voice inside my head won\u2019t let me go\/I know you won\u2019t forgive me for the things you\u2019ll never know,\u201d he howls. \u201cCome back to me, sweet autumn \u2014 can it hurry up and find me?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The band paired \u201cBorderlines\u201d with a trippy video in which Baizley and guitarist Gina Gleason sing into the camera between ominous shots of skulls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Baroness recorded the 17-track <em>Gold &amp; Grey<\/em> with producer Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Mogwai, MGMT) \u2014 who produced their last album, 2015\u2019s <em>Purple<\/em> \u2014 at his remote Tarbox Road Studio in upstate New York. The band opted for a more improvisational, collaborative approach on the LP, which marks Gleason\u2019s debut Baroness recording.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In a statement, Baizley hyped <em>Gold &amp; Grey<\/em> as their \u201cmost adventurous\u201d album yet. \u201cWe dug incredibly deep, challenged ourselves and recorded a record I\u2019m positive we could never again replicate,\u201d he said. \u201cI consider myself incredibly fortunate to know Sebastian, Nick and Gina as both my bandmates and my friends. They have pushed me to become a better songwriter, musician and vocalist. We\u2019re all extremely excited for this release, which includes quite a few \u2018firsts\u2019 for the band, and we\u2019re thrilled to be back on tour to play these psychotic songs for our fans.
