Cole went platinum with no features.\u201d The joke\/rallying cry\u2019s genesis is simple. Cole\u2019s last three albums \u2014 <em>2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/2014-forest-hills-drive-106395\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Forest Hills Drive<\/a><\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/on-the-charts-j-cole-lands-fourth-number-one-album-with-4-your-eyez-only-114639\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>4 Your Eyez Only<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/review-j-coles-k-o-d-is-a-tough-rewarding-meditation-on-addiction-630615\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>KOD<\/em><\/a> \u2014 are all platinum, but none have any features. That arbitrary distinction \u2014 most rappers have other rappers on their rap albums \u2014 gave Cole truthers all the ammunition they needed to attack fanbases like Drake\u2019s peaceful Aubrey\u2019s Angels and Nayvadius \u201cFuture\u201d Wilburn\u2019s wise and docile #FutureHive. Cole was, according to their logic, better at making rap albums because he refused any help. It was a shaky premise and, thankfully, Jermaine took responsibility for his wayward flock in a cover story for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/j-cole-buck-the-system-profile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><em>GQ<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was loving it,\u201d Cole said of the infamous joke. \u201cI was like, \u2018Word up\u2014this is funny as hell.\u2019 But the second or third time, I was like, \u2018All right, it\u2019s almost embarrassing now.\u2019 Like, \u2018All right, man, y\u2019all gonna make me put a feature on the album just so this shit can stop.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, he was unwilling to get into the details of who, hypothetically, would be a feature on his highly anticipated next album. \u201cWell, I don\u2019t have any right now that I really want to boast about,\u201d Cole said. \u201cNot saying it\u2019s impossible. It\u2019s just about getting out of my comfort zone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cole: Be a man of conviction. Now is not the time for weakness.
