{"id":793991,"date":"2019-03-19T18:58:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-20T00:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/keystone-man-cited-for-allegedly-using-dog-to-attack-vets-service-animal\/"},"modified":"2019-03-21T08:04:14","modified_gmt":"2019-03-21T14:04:14","slug":"keystone-man-cited-for-allegedly-using-dog-to-attack-vets-service-animal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/local-news\/keystone-man-cited-for-allegedly-using-dog-to-attack-vets-service-animal\/","title":{"rendered":"Keystone man cited for allegedly using dog to attack vet\u2019s service animal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/03\/Brf-ServiceDog-SDN-032019-1-1.jpg\" class=\"wp-image-363208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/03\/Brf-ServiceDog-SDN-032019-1-1.jpg 301w, https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/03\/Brf-ServiceDog-SDN-032019-1-1-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 301px) 100vw, 301px\">\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">A Keystone business owner has been issued a summons by the District Attorney\u2019s office over allegations he had intentionally had his dog attack a veteran\u2019s service dog on the evening of Feb. 12 outside Pizza 101 in Keystone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Steve Cain, owner of Snowdance Sports ski rentals, was cited on March 8 for \u201cfailure to prevent a hazard\u201d as well as \u201cinterfering with a service animal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The charges stem <a id=\"N0x1d15100N0x1b5ded0:N0x1d15100N0x1c29620\" href=\"http:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/crime\/disabled-veteran-accuses-keystone-business-owner-of-using-his-dog-to-attack-service-animal\/\">from the Feb. 12 incident,<\/a> when Cain was accused by a disabled Marine veteran, Manuel Rivera, of intentionally siccing his dog on Rivera\u2019s service animal, Tank, a German shepherd trained to alert Rivera of oncoming seizures and help him prevent falls. Rivera alleged that Cain was intoxicated and was trying to get the dogs to fight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Cain denies siccing his dog on Tank, accusing Rivera of blowing the situation out of proportion and creating a dangerous situation by not moving his service dog from the area when asked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Rivera, who has severe epilepsy, served in the Marine Corps for 10 years. An epileptic seizure in 2012 made Rivera fall and hit the back of his head, causing a traumatic brain injury. Rivera now regularly suffers from flashbacks, cognitive disorder, depression and night terrors.
