The Summit County Sheriff’s Office ski team for the annual Colorado Peace Officer Ski Race.<\/strong>
Summit County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Summit County Sheriff\u2019s Office was one of several law enforcement agencies around the country to participate in the 46th annual Colorado Peace Officer Ski & Snowboard Race last week at Vail Ski Resort.<\/p>\n

More than 100 officers from agencies around the country participated in the event, said Craig Westering of the Vail Police Department, which sponsors the event every year. Westering said in addition to local law enforcement, representatives from the New York Police Department, Chicago Police Department, Secret Service, FBI, DEA and others also participated.<\/p>\n

The team from the Summit County Sheriff\u2019s Office took home first prize at the event, followed by the Vail Police Department, the Avon Police Department and a second team from the Summit County Sheriff\u2019s Office. Summit deputies also performed well individually. In the advanced men\u2019s category, Mark Watson placed second, Matt Goldstein took fourth, Brian Metzger took fifth and Joe Scalise finished in the top ten. Kevin Kelble took second in the masters division and Erin Sirek finished first in the advanced women\u2019s division.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s event served as a fundraiser for the Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re back in the No. 1 standing, and I\u2019m so proud of that team,\u201d said Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons. \u201cWe\u2019re glad to be back in first place, and they better look out next year.\u201d<\/p>\n
