Each year, the Breckebeiner Ski & Snowshoe Bash raises money for the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) Scholarship Fund. This year\u2019s 17th annual Breckebeiner 50K Ski & Snowshoe Bash at the Breckenridge Nordic Center has been downgraded to 50 kilometers and has a fundraising goal of $50,000, both to celebrate 50 years of Nordic skiing in Breckenridge and Summit County.<\/p>\n

The annual event, which is a fundraising benefit for the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) Scholarship Fund, will be held at the Breckenridge Nordic Center (BNC) on Sunday, April 7 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cGene Dayton, the directing founder of the BOEC and proprietor of the BNC, made a commitment 50 years ago to ensure everyone has access to the outdoors through Nordic skiing,\u201d BOEC spokesman Barry Rubenstein said in a news release, \u201cincluding those with disabilities and special needs. In celebration of this history and in support of the BOEC, this year\u2019s \u201c50-50-50\u201d Breckebeiner is 50K in length in hopes of raising $50,000 of much needed scholarship funds for the BOEC.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Nordic course will be on intermediate terrain groomed for both skate and classic styles, with an adaptive Nordic course available for those with special needs. Ski loops of 5K and 2.5K will be marked at the Nordic center and participants can ski or snowshoe as little or as much as they would like.<\/p>\n

The Breckebeiner is not a relay, which means individuals can ski solo or can form a team to ski together or ski solo.<\/p>\n

Event organizers are asking friends, family members and business associates to pledge $1 for every kilometer skied.<\/p>\n

To register and to create a personal fundraising page online, go to SkiReg.com\/Breckebeiner. There is a minimum registration fee of $30 for adults and $15 for children (12-and-under) to participate. All proceeds benefit the BOEC scholarship fund.<\/p>\n

The event will also feature a lunch donated by EpicPromise, happy-hour prices for drinks, live music by Breckenridge artists the Pine Beetles, costume contests and other fundraiser prizes donated by EpicPromise, BNC, Swix Sport USA, Salomon Sports and Fischer Skis US.<\/p>\n
