Def Leppard<\/a> led an all-star jam of Mott the Hoople<\/a>\u2019s \u201cAll the Young Dudes\u201d to close out the 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame<\/a> induction ceremony.<\/p>\n

The jam included Queen\u2019s Brian May<\/a>, the Zombies\u2019 Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent, the Bangles\u2019 Susanna Hoffs<\/a>, \u201cLittle\u201d Steven Van Zandt and, the surprise guest, Ian Hunter of Mott the Hoople, who emerged from backstage to join the inductees and presenters for the rendition of the David Bowie-penned classic.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s usually an all-star jam but we\u2019re gonna try something different. More sedate, less messy, more classic,\u201d Def Leppard\u2019s Joe Elliott told the crowd at Brooklyn\u2019s Barclays Center.<\/p>\n

The Def Leppard singer also introduced Hunter as \u201ca gentleman whose band 45 years ago today released their last studio album. He fronted that band for about five years; he\u2019s fronted himself about 40.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elliott has long professed that Mott the Hoople is his favorite band<\/a>, telling Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> of \u201cAll the Young Dudes\u201d in 2018, \u201cIt\u2019s the anthem of our generation. I first heard it when I was 12. It was the definitive moment for a bunch of scruffy teenage kids in Sheffield and all over the U.K. \u2013 maybe more in the U.K. than in America. I had been a fan of the band since their early days when they were making hard rock, and I was totally up with Ian Hunter\u2019s persona, his voice; everything about him resonated with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The all-star jam closed out an epic Rock Hall ceremony that featured a Roxy Music reunion<\/a>, the Cure\u2019s hits-filled mini-set<\/a>, the Zombies\u2019 performance<\/a> and Stevie Nicks delivering a medley<\/a> with Don Henley and Harry Styles.<\/p>\n
