Green Day<\/a> has collectively co-authored a book<\/a> titled Last of the American Girls<\/em>. The full-color text, illustrated by cartoonist Frank Caruso, will be released on October 29th via Dey Street Books.<\/p>\n

Named after the song \u201cLast of the American Girls\u201d off 21st Century Breakdown<\/em>, the book is described as \u201can inspiring homage and handbook for the rebellious everywoman who refuses to capitulate,\u201d according to a statement from their publisher. No further details are available at this time, but the book is being further billed as a celebration of \u201ctrue rebel girls,\u201d another song reference to the American Idiot<\/em> track \u201cShe\u2019s a Rebel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Upon its release, Billie Joe Armstrong told Blunt<\/a><\/em> that \u201cLast of the American Girls\u201d was originally about his wife. \u201cThen I started getting into more of my own beliefs \u2014 anything from a little book of conspiracies to playing vinyl records or something,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt\u2019s sort of about an empowering, sort of subterranean kind of lifestyle, but at the same time there\u2019s a new era coming in with the way we all need to live.\u201d  The song was one of the 21st Century Breakdown<\/em> tracks to be added to the Broadway musical adaptation American Idiot<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Caruso has worked with other musicians in the past; he illustrated Bruce Springsteen\u2019s book Outlaw Pete<\/em> and was the art director for Wilco\u2019s \u201cDawned on Me\u201d music video. Last of the American Girls<\/em> will be Green Day\u2019s first project since 2016\u2019s Revolution Radio<\/em>. The year prior, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame<\/em> by Fall Out Boy.<\/p>\n

In 2017, they released their second greatest hits compilation God\u2019s Favorite Band<\/em> which featured the new song \u201cBack in the USA\u201d along with a revamped version of Revolution Radio<\/em> track \u201cOrdinary World\u201d that featured Miranda Lambert. On Instagram Live in December, Armstrong confirmed that he was writing new songs for Green Day though the band has yet to reveal immediate future plans.<\/p>\n
