In late March, the Philadelphia rapper released \u201cFree Uzi.\u201d Atlantic Records, his label, called it a \u201cleak.\u201d A source close to the situation alleged that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/lil-uzi-vert-free-uzi-814835\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Uzi\u2019s record company is not allowing him to release any music<\/a>. Then, Don Cannon and DJ Drama began disputing that claim, and teasing new music. Over a week later, and Uzi\u2019s \u201cofficial\u201d return to music after a brief, self-announced retirement is over.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/album\/thats-a-rack-single\/1459303765\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">\u201cThat\u2019s a Rack\u201d<\/a> and \u201cSanguine Dream\u201d dropped on streaming services on Tuesday, this time with an Atlantic Records attribution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFree Uzi\u201d was a chaotic freestyle, featuring slightly pitched-up vocals from Uzi, and over a beat that had already been release. The two new songs are more traditional fare, circling identical topics. The hook for \u201cThat\u2019s a Rack\u201d is, as its title would imply, about racks (and also hitting it from the back and calling it a wrap with diamonds on your neck). Not to be outdone, the hook for \u201cSanguine Dream\u201d is also about racks and hitting it from the back, but instead of regular diamonds, this time Uzi has colored jewelry on.<\/p>\n<p>At first listen, it\u2019s hard not to feel like both records are likely placeholders. Everything, from the bars to the melodies, are uninspired when placed next to Uzi\u2019s typically convention-twisting work.
