Jason Cuervo, 28, of Grand Junction, was sentenced to three years in a community corrections facility on Tuesday after pleading guilty to felony charges of aggravated motor vehicle theft in October.<\/p>\n

Cuervo stole a snowcat painted like the General Lee car from the \u201cDukes of Hazzard\u201d from a parking lot in Minturn last March, and towed it to his home in Grand Junction. After the owner posted pictures of the stolen vehicle on social media, law enforcement received hundreds of leads to track down Cuervo, according to a release from the Fifth Judicial District Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

After locating Cuervo, police also discovered a snowmobile Cuervo admitted to stealing from the same Minturn parking lot a month earlier.<\/p>\n

Cuervo has an extensive criminal history, and is set for another sentencing in Clear Creek County later this month after pleading guilty to a felony weapons possession charge.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis young man has struggled with substance abuse and criminal behavior for the better part of his adult life,\u201d said Heidi McCollum, assistant district attorney. \u201cIt\u2019s good to have him placed in a facility that can address both of those issues. Much of his life is being controlled by a world of drugs and crime, so I hope this community corrections time helps him find a better direction and purpose, while protecting law-abiding people in society.\u201d<\/p>\n
