The alt-rock band previewed the LP with its pulsating, string-fueled lead single \u201cIt Doesn\u2019t Matter Why.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the track\u2019s minimalist video, the band members and other strangers stare into the camera against blank backgrounds, posing and dancing and contorting as the arrangement winds into guitar harmonics, violin solos and the passionate belting of frontman Brian Aubert.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In a statement about <em>Widow\u2019s Weeds<\/em>, which follows 2015\u2019s <em>Better Nature<\/em>, the band detailed their studio chemistry with Vig, the famed producer of classic records like Nirvana\u2019s <em>Nevermind<\/em> and Smashing Pumpkins\u2019 <em>Siamese Dream<\/em>. \u201cHe really listens to each band member, and he puts a great value on each individual and what they can add to the music,\u201d said bassist Nikki Monninger. \u201cIt was very collaborative with him. He\u2019s such an easygoing person, and he put everybody at ease.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Aubert also noted that he recorded the album while in a dark emotional place, leading him to pursue treatment and get sober during a gap in their studio sessions. \u201cI didn\u2019t know how to get out of [that headspace],\u201d he said. \u201cFinally, I was just like, something big has to happen \u2026 The record does have a mourning vibe, but it\u2019s not sad. It\u2019s change. It\u2019s growing up<\/span> <span class=\"s1\">and moving on and letting go of things. And it\u2019s OK to be sad about those things and mourn them. It\u2019s actually healthy to do so and take the time to do it.
