AURORA, Colo. \u2014 The Summit Daily News received 48 awards over the weekend from the Colorado Press Association and the Colorado Associated Press Editors & Reporters, including \u201cGeneral Excellence\u201d honors and a \u201cBest in Show\u201d recognition for photographer Hugh Carey.<\/p>\n

The Daily was recognized by the Colorado Press Association with the \u201cPhoto & Design Sweepstakes\u201d award and \u201cGeneral Excellence\u201d honors, along with 21 individual awards, including 14 first-place finishes in its circulation class. Winners were recognized Saturday night at the 2018 CPA Better Newspaper Contest at the Hyatt Regency in Aurora. At the Colorado Associated Press Editors & Reporters ceremony on Friday night, the Daily placed in 23 categories, including 13 first-place finishes as well as a \u201cGeneral Excellence\u201d award and a \u201cBest in Show\u201d award for Hugh Carey\u2019s photo of a pond skimmer whose ill-advised leap resulted in crowd injuries and criminal charges.<\/p>\n

In the Colorado Press Association contest, the Daily competes against newspapers in Colorado with a circulation between 6,001 and 15,000, including the Aspen Times, Durango Herald, Vail Daily, Glenwood Springs Post Independent, Steamboat Springs Pilot & Today, the Aurora Sentinel and the Colorado Independent.<\/p>\n
