He served as Breckenridge rebounded from the Great Recession, and he\u2019s been credited for playing an important role in many of the town\u2019s achievements over the last eight years, including construction of the Arts District, the addition of numerous workforce housing units and the creation of the Summit County South Branch Library in Breckenridge.<\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/a-pro-business-candidate-burke-became-much-more-during-eight-years-of-service\/\">interview with the Summit Daily last year<\/a>, he recalled entering office believing he\u2019d be pro-business, only to find out he would often support issues like early childhood education, the environment and other initiatives that had little to do with business.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/04\/Burke-SDN-040218-1-1.jpg\" alt class=\"wp-image-327720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/04\/Burke-SDN-040218-1-1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/04\/Burke-SDN-040218-1-1-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/04\/Burke-SDN-040218-1-1-325x216.jpg 325w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\"><figcaption><strong>Councilman Mark Burke, center, gets a standing ovation during a Breckenridge Town Council meeting in April 2018.<\/strong><br \/><em>Eli Pace \/ <a href=\"mailto:epace@summitdaily.com\">epace@summitdaily.com<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Burke left office when his second term expired in April 2018, and he had been suffering from some problems with his health.
