Romanoff, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2020, visited Frisco on Wednesday.<\/strong><br \/><em>Deepan Dutta \/ ddutta@summitdaily.com<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Andrew Romanoff, the former speaker of the Colorado House and a democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2020, held a forum with Summit County Democratic Party members at the Summit County Community and Senior Center in Frisco on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Romanoff is currently one of 11 Democrats vying to challenge Sen. Cory Gardner in the upcoming Senate election. He served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 2001 to 2009, serving as House Speaker from 2005 to 2009. He ran unsuccessfully for Senate in 2010 and for Congress in 2014, before becoming president and CEO for mental health non-profit Mental Health Colorado from 2015 to his announced Senate run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Romanoff said he would make mental health and health care a priority if he is elected to serve on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI spent four years trying to make a difference in the lives of people who face a mental health or substance use disorder,\u201d Romanoff said. \u201cWe made some progress, but a lot of the progress is in danger of being rolled back by this administration and its enablers in the U.S. Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Romanoff also committed to working on issues concerning the environment, especially climate change. He expressed frustration with what he sees as a lack of urgency on these issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cThis is life or death stuff, whether you\u2019re talking about access to mental health care or substance use treatment, or health care in general, the fate of the planet is at stake, literally,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m not content to watch people in my state struggle or suffer or die on account of problems that we could fix, and I don\u2019t see a sense of urgency on Capitol Hill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/local\/democratic-2020-u-s-senate-candidate-andrew-romanoff-visits-frisco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Summit Daily<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Andrew Romanoff with his dog, Zorro, in Frisco, May 2018..
