{"id":796587,"date":"2019-06-08T10:02:59","date_gmt":"2019-06-08T16:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=845958"},"modified":"2019-06-08T10:02:59","modified_gmt":"2019-06-08T16:02:59","slug":"dr-john-celebrated-at-second-line-tribute-in-new-orleans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/dr-john-celebrated-at-second-line-tribute-in-new-orleans\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. John Celebrated at Second Line Tribute in New Orleans"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/10298631h.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>New Orleans musicians and hundreds of citizens paid tribute to the late <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/dr-john\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dr-john\" data-tag=\"dr-john\">Dr. John<\/a> with a traditional \u201csecond line\u201d parade through the Big Easy Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Fans first assembled outside the city\u2019s Kermit\u2019s Treme Mother-In-Law Lounge before taking the ceremony to the streets, with trumpeter James Andrews leading the celebration with renditions of Dr. John\u2019s \u201cSuch a Night\u201d and \u201cHey Song,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nola.com\/entertainment\/2019\/06\/dr-johns-second-line-parade-rambled-through-the-treme-friday.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">NOLA.com reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. John\u2019s granddaughter Stephanie O\u2019Quin&nbsp;attended the second line parade, calling it \u201cpretty incredible, really hot, really nice.\u201d \u201cIt makes me so happy to see all these people here for him,\u201d she told NOLA.com.<\/p>\n<p>The New Orleans legend born Malcolm John Rebennack Jr. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/dr-john-dead-obituary-845445\/\">died of a heart attack<\/a> Thursday at the age of 77. \u201cAs a Rock N Roll Hall of Fame inductee, six-time Grammy winner, songwriter, composer, producer and performer, he created a unique blend of music which carried his hometown, New Orleans, at its heart, as it was always in his heart,\u201d his family said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Black Keys\u2019 Dan Auerbach said of Dr. John in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/dan-auerbach-dr-john-remembrance-845670\/\">a tribute for <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, \u201cHe was so one of a kind. He came from a time before social media and everything became one big thing. He could truly be unique, isolated in a way \u2014 that special gumbo. We lost one of the greatest musicians who ever lived and also one of the greatest reflections of this country, musically, in one man.
