West Ice Arena and Illinois Gulch trailhead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">A ribbon cutting is at 2:30 p.m., and visitors are encouraged to take the bus or walk 15 minutes from the Breckenridge Welcome Center to reduce traffic at the site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The celebration is the culmination of months of planning by a relocation committee and trail work by the town\u2019s Open Space &amp; Trails department.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cWe put together a community committee \u2026 to find a new location for the troll to bring him back in some reimagined form,\u201d Breckenridge Open Space and Trails manager Anne Murphy said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The committee \u2014 which was composed of Breckenridge residents, town council members and town employees \u2014 worked to find a location that was accessible and adventurous, offered an outdoor experience for visitors and could sustain a high amount traffic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The committee also searched for a site that had parking and no residential areas nearby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The new site \u201cchecked all the boxes for us,\u201d Holman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The new directional Trollstigen trail \u2014 which was built by a six-person team from the trails department along with a local contractor \u2014 features a rock-lined path, 200 feet of wooden boardwalk and a flagstone area in front of the troll for photos and selfies, Murphy said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cWe decided this trail has to sustain a lot of foot traffic for a very long time to come,\u201d Murphy said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">She said the town hopes to keep Isak for as long as possible, planning for a 10-year timeframe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Holman described the new viewing area as \u201cunbelievable,\u201d saying town staff went above and beyond in creating Isak\u2019s new home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI don\u2019t think anyone ever dreamed it would be as popular as it was,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/isak-heartstone-reopens-with-new-look\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Summit Daily<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Isak Heartstone, by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, sits in the new site along Illinois Creek Monday June 24, in Breckenridge.Hugh Carey \/ hcarey@summitdaily.com Breckenridge\u2019s beloved trail troll, Isak Heartstone, is ready to receive visitors at his new home.
