Pam Houston, author of \u201cCowboys Are My Weakness,\u201d \u201cContents May Have Shifted,\u201d and more, is coming to Colorado Mountain College\u2019s Breckenridge campus as part of a national book tour for her latest novel, \u201cDeep Creek: Finding Hope in the High Country.\u201d<\/p>\n

In its chapters, Houston spends her days walking along the fences on her 120-acre property near Creede, watching leaves on the aspens change into their fall colors, and caring for the animals on her ranch. \u201cDeep Creek\u201d raises concern about the many ways we endanger the natural world\u2019s delicate balance and it\u2019s also a chronicle of recovery from a childhood marked by her parents\u2019 alcoholism and abuse.<\/p>\n

Encompassing Houston\u2019s childhood, her adventures and her details of everyday life at the ranch, the book tells how Houston carved a life to support her spirit and her talents, and discovered that she could be the cowboy of her own story. \u201cI know,\u201d she said in a press release, \u201cthat when I claimed these 120 acres they also claimed me. We are each other\u2019s mutual saviors.\u201d<\/p>\n
