{"id":797640,"date":"2019-07-15T10:42:54","date_gmt":"2019-07-15T16:42:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/?p=368826"},"modified":"2019-07-15T10:42:54","modified_gmt":"2019-07-15T16:42:54","slug":"man-dies-wife-injured-in-lightning-strike-on-colorado-peak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/local-news\/man-dies-wife-injured-in-lightning-strike-on-colorado-peak\/","title":{"rendered":"Man dies, wife injured in lightning strike on Colorado peak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DENVER \u2014 A Denver man has died after being struck by lightning while hiking on a Colorado peak.<\/p>\n<p>The Denver Post&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2019\/07\/14\/bear-peak-hikers-lightning-strike\/\">reports<\/a>&nbsp;the 36-year-old man died while his 37-year-old wife sustained non-life threatening injuries Sunday on Bear Peak.<\/p>\n<p>Officials did not release their names.<\/p>\n<p>Officials say a call was made to 911 around 1 p.m. notifying authorities the man was unconscious and not breathing and that a passerby had started CPR.<\/p>\n<p>Rescue personnel arrived and found the injured couple about a quarter-mile (0.4 kilometers) up from the Bear Creek trailhead 37 miles (60 kilometers) northwest of Denver.<\/p>\n<p>Officials say the man was airlifted to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say an initial investigation at the scene suggested the man received a direct lightning strike to his upper body.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/man-dies-wife-injured-in-lightning-strike-on-colorado-peak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Summit Daily<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DENVER \u2014 A Denver man has died after being struck by lightning while hiking on a Colorado peak.
