At 12 songs and 44 minutes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/brockhampton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brockhampton<\/a>\u2018s fifth album operates like a tightrope act between the group\u2019s propensity for overwhelming earnestness and the chaos of their kinetic cyphers. That\u2019s what makes the album\u2019s second track, \u201cSugar,\u201d feel like a bold swing after the darkness of the preceding intro track, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/brockhampton-video-no-halo-874970\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">No Halo<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wistful and sweet, \u201cSugar\u201d is centered by a mesmerizing hook from Ryan Beatty. \u201cSpendin\u2019 all my nights alone, waiting for you to call me,\u201d Beatty\u2019s layered vocals sing on top of a sparse, guitar-driven beat. \u201cYou\u2019re the only one I want by my side when I fall asleep.\u201d As the song unfolds, Jabari and Romil Hemnani slowly introduce more production elements that swell around Beatty\u2019s voices and ultimately propel the downtempo affair into something far more upbeat. Through a vocoder-like drawl, Dom McLennon delivers one of the album\u2019s most emotional verses as his voice twists around the lyrics \u201cYou can find me dancing in between the raindrops \/ Tryna find a way to make the pain stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a recent <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> interview about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/brockhampton-ginger-profile-871695\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">making of <em>Ginger<\/em><\/a>, Kevin Abstract described Brockhampton\u2019s desire to make their new album sound like summer.&nbsp;\u201cI don\u2019t know what makes a song connect anymore, and I don\u2019t think people really know,\u201d Abstract said. \u201cOur album is very summery right now.
