{"id":798996,"date":"2019-08-29T16:44:52","date_gmt":"2019-08-29T22:44:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/?p=370762"},"modified":"2019-08-29T16:44:52","modified_gmt":"2019-08-29T22:44:52","slug":"car-stolen-others-burglarized-in-silverthorne-wednesday-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/local-news\/car-stolen-others-burglarized-in-silverthorne-wednesday-night\/","title":{"rendered":"Car stolen, others burglarized in Silverthorne Wednesday night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SILVERTHORNE \u2014 Residents around the county should remember to keep their car doors locked after one or more thieves made their way through a neighborhood in Silverthorne on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of residents in the Solarado neighborhood in Silverthorne \u2014 at the end of West Anemone Trail behind Dillon Dam Brewery \u2014 woke up to a rude surprise early Thursday after discovering a car was stolen and others had been burglarized.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Plummer, who just moved into the neighborhood, said a neighbor knocked on his door at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday to inform him someone had burglarized his vehicle. Upon inspection, Plummer said the doors and back hatch on his truck were left open, and his tools were stolen from inside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a shame,\u201d Plummer said. \u201cI\u2019ve been up here almost 20 years, and I lived in multiple places where I didn\u2019t even have a key. Unfortunately, things change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Plummer\u2019s car, Silverthorne Police Chief John Minor said three other cars on the block were entered and another car was stolen. All four cars were unlocked, and the stolen vehicle was unlocked with the keys inside.<\/p>\n<div class=\"p402_hide\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/08\/Screen-Shot-2019-08-29-at-4.40.21-PM.png\" alt class=\"wp-image-370773\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/08\/Screen-Shot-2019-08-29-at-4.40.21-PM.png 498w, https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/08\/Screen-Shot-2019-08-29-at-4.40.21-PM-300x91.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 498px) 100vw, 498px\"><figcaption>One Man\u2019s Junk Summit County<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAlmost every vehicle break-in we have is because people leave their vehicles unlocked, and people leave valuables in their car,\u201d Minor said. \u201cMost of our stolen vehicles are because people leave their keys in their car and their vehicle unlocked. So if you don\u2019t want to be a victim of this type of crime, it\u2019s pretty easy to prevent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Minor continued to say that the thefts appear to have been isolated to the Solarado neighborhood and that no similar break-ins were reported in other areas.<\/p>\n<p>Dillon Police Chief Mark Heminghous said no similar crimes were reported in Dillon on Wednesday night or Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis happens periodically throughout Summit County all the time,\u201d Minor said. \u201cBut last night, it was isolated, as far as we know, to that one neighborhood. It looks like a crime of opportunity, but we still have some follow-up to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information about the crime should call the Silverthorne Police Department at 970-262-7320.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just disappointed in whoever did this,\u201d Plummer said. \u201cIt\u2019s disappointing, and it\u2019s frustrating \u2026 but in the grand scheme of things, it could be worse.
