Mick Jagger<\/a> condemned the Trump administration\u2019s climate change stance and criticized Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson for creating polarization among their nation\u2019s citizens Saturday at the Venice Film Festival, where the Rolling Stones singer was on hand for the premiere of Burnt Orange Heresy<\/em>; the rocker co-stars as an art dealer in the upcoming film.<\/p>\n

Jagger\u2019s comments came after a group of young climate change activists protested near the festival<\/a> and spray-painted \u201cListen to your children\u201d and \u201cMake the red carpet green\u201d on the red carpet, the AFP reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in a very difficult situation at the moment, especially in the U.S., where all the environmental controls that were put in place \u2013 that were just about adequate \u2013 have been rolled back by the current administration so much that they are being wiped out,\u201d Jagger said of the Trump administration. \u201cThe U.S. should be the world leader in environmental control but now it has decided to go the other way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jagger continued, \u201cI am so glad that people feel so strongly about that that they want to protest. I\u2019m absolutely behind that. I\u2019m glad they\u2019re doing that because they\u2019re the ones who are going to inherit the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jagger and co-star Donald Sutherland also slammed leaders like Trump, Johnson and Argentina\u2019s Jair Balsonaro who divide rather than unite. \u201cIn so many countries, including my own this last week\u2026 but particularly the U.S, it\u2019s a bit of a sea change. It is not about manners,\u201d Jagger said, adding that he feared \u201cwhere all this polarization and rudeness and lying [is going to lead us].\u201d<\/p>\n

Sutherland added, \u201cMick is right, the controls [in the U.S.] under Obama were barely adequate \u2013 now they are being torn apart. It\u2019s the same in Brazil and they will be torn apart in England [under Brexit]\u2026 When you are 85 years old and you have children and grandchildren, we will leave them nothing if we do not vote those people out of office in Brazil and in London and in Washington. They are ruining the world. We have contributed to the ruination of it, but they are ensuring it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burnt Orange Heresy<\/em>, directed by Giuseppe Capotondi, marks Jagger\u2019s first significant film role since 2001\u2019s The Man From Elysian Fields<\/em>. The singer portrays an art collector and gallery owner in the film, though Jagger noted he doesn\u2019t collect art himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not really a collector. I throw things away,\u201d Jagger said (via The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>). \u201cI buy things and then lose them. I\u2019m a completely hopeless collector. I\u2019m the complete opposite.\u201d<\/p>\n
