{"id":800261,"date":"2019-10-10T14:20:56","date_gmt":"2019-10-10T20:20:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=897458"},"modified":"2019-10-10T14:20:56","modified_gmt":"2019-10-10T20:20:56","slug":"frank-zappa-marks-50th-anniversary-of-hot-rats-with-massive-reissue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/frank-zappa-marks-50th-anniversary-of-hot-rats-with-massive-reissue\/","title":{"rendered":"Frank Zappa Marks 50th Anniversary of \u2018Hot Rats\u2019 With Massive Reissue"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/frank-zappa-hot-rats-reissue.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/frank-zappa\/\" id=\"auto-tag_frank-zappa\" data-tag=\"frank-zappa\">Frank Zappa<\/a>\u2019s estate will mark the 50th anniversary of the guitarist and composer\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/hot-rats-184750\/\"><em>Hot Rats<\/em><\/a> \u2014 released on this date in 1969 \u2014 with a six-disc reissue that offers a deep dive into the sessions that yielded the jazz-rock masterpiece.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Hot Rats Sessions<\/em>, due out December 20th via UMe and Zappa Records, compiles every composition recorded during the July 1969 studio sessions, including an \u201cabundance of rare and unedited mixes, work mixes, relevant Vault nuggets and complete basic tracks mixed from the original multi-track master tapes,\u201d according to a release.<\/p>\n<p>The first four discs include the studio sessions, showcasing the creative process behind <em>Hot Rats<\/em> tracks like \u201cPeaches En Regalia,\u201d \u201cIt Must Be a Camel\u201d and the Captain Beefheart-featuring \u201cWillie the Pimp,\u201d plus non-LP songs like \u201cTransition\u201d and \u201cNatasha.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fifth and sixth discs boast the 1987 digital remix of <em>Hot Rats<\/em> along with radio advertisements, rare mono mixes, rhythm tracks and more.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1HP5i4dxZP4?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>The Hot Rats Sessions<\/em> also comes with a 28-page book featuring never-before-seen photographs from both the recording sessions and the <em>Hot Rats<\/em> album cover shoot; an alternate image from the cover shoot appears on the reissue. <em>The Simpsons<\/em>\u2018 Matt Groening also contributes a written tribute to <em>Hot Rats<\/em>, an album he says \u201cspun me around like a propeller beanie,&nbsp;and melted my brain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the original <em>Hot Rats<\/em> album will also be available as a single-LP reissue pressed on translucent hot pink 180-gram vinyl on December 20th, one day before what would have been Zappa\u2019s 79th birthday.<\/p>\n<p>Both the 6CD and 1LP reissues are available to <a href=\"https:\/\/store.zappa.com\/hot-rats.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">preorder<\/a> now.
