The panicked attempts to move Joe Biden off center stage in
\nthe Democratic Party continued last Tuesday night as media commentary centered
\non the \u201cnew star\u201d of the left, Elizabeth Warren \u2014  described
\nby CNN as \u201cnow a front runner<\/a>\u201d as though she had previously been an
\nafterthought like Robert Francis O\u2019Rourke or Amy Klobuchar. We also saw the
\nconfirmation of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as the new power and kingmaker in the Democratic
\nParty, thanks to reports of her plan
\nto endorse Bernie Sanders<\/a> and drag the rest of her sorry \u201csquad\u201d along with
\nher.  <\/sup> <\/p>\n

Warren\u2019s rise to prominence at Biden\u2019s expense lends
\ncredence to the idea that the \u201cTrump blackmailed Ukraine\u201d foolishness is the product
\nof a whistleblower with professional
\nties to a Democratic candidate<\/a>, as the intelligence community\u2019s inspector general
\nrecently said in Congressional testimony. This mischief has dual purpose: It
\nundermines the president while weakening Biden, whose self-confessed blackmail
\nthreat to Ukraine\u2019s government over its investigation of his son Hunter\u2019s
\ncorrupt practices there will receive greater attention in any proceeding
\nagainst Trump. An evil move but a clever one.<\/p>\n

According to Nate Silver\u2019s polling organization Five
\nThirty-Eight, Warren scored just above average on the performance\/likeability
\ntrend line, with Pete Buttigieg and Sanders; Biden was below the line, with
\nKamela Harris and Cory Booker. Tulsi
\nGabbard was in the lowest and leftmost position<\/a>; it\u2019s doubtful she\u2019ll continue
\nmuch longer.<\/p>\n

What were we promised by the men and women who would be
\npresident? Much more than putting an end to Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

Most will rejoin the ineffective but crippling Paris Climate
\nAccord. Klobuchar will do it on day one. A return to Obama-era
\nemissions standards and gas mileage mandates will follow<\/a>.Harris
\nwill do away with Trump\u2019s tax cuts and shut
\ndown \u201cfor-profit prisons<\/a>.\u201d She doesn\u2019t say where their prisoners will go. Perhaps
\nto San Francisco, whose Rep.
\nNancy Pelosi thinks walls are \u201cimmoral<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Booker wants to tighten restrictions on the sale of
\nfirearms, decriminalize marijuana federally and make DACA recipients citizens. Buttigieg
\nwants to eliminate the Electoral College.<\/p>\n

There was much more, from the charmingly loony to the totalitarian.
\nBut it all comes down to this: If elected, a Democrat will raise your taxes,
\ntake away your health care and your firearms, limit your ability to speak your
\nmind. Any Democrat will open our borders, destroy our economy in vain search
\nfor an environment without carbon dioxide, pile on regulations and remake
\nAmerican culture beyond recognition. We know this because they\u2019ve told us they
\nwill. Each and every one of them thinks that\u2019s exactly what most Americans
\nwant. What they haven\u2019t said is that all this will make us poorer, more divided
\nand less safe \u2014 save for those rich and well-connected enough to rent politicians
\nto protect their interests.<\/p>\n

Their penultimate goal is the eradication of Donald Trump.
\nNot just his removal from office in an attempt to reverse the election of 2016;
\nthat\u2019s just the first step. Afterward, he and his family must be destroyed by
\nour politicized federal judiciary, and their remains scattered to the winds as
\na warning to anyone in the future who has the effrontery to challenge the
\npolitical oligarchy and their allies in the Washington bureaucracy and national
\nmedia. Americans must be persuaded that, to use a phrase familiar to some,
\n\u201cresistance is futile.\u201d<\/p>\n

Every Democratic candidate has indicated that afterward they
\nwill work to remake the country into an earthly paradise in which capitalism
\nwill cease, but every need will be addressed; every wrong, real or imagined,
\nrighted; every wish fulfilled. A few, like Buttigieg, might have a momentary
\nflash of reason and ask how all this will be done when it will require more
\nmoney than the nation has. But none has yet bothered to reflect that no society
\non Earth has even come within shouting distance of the Socialist pipe dream
\nthey are all selling. Not the 19th century French Syndicalists nor their
\nsmall-scale counterparts in various communes in this country and Europe. Not
\nthe Russian Marxists nor the Chinese who followed them. Not the hermit kingdoms
\nof Albania or North Korea. Not Cuba. Not Venezuela. Not even contemporary
\nScandinavian countries, where robust capitalist economies fund ample social
\nspending. To insist, in light of this abbreviated list of spectacular failures,
\nthat they will succeed seems the height of egoism.<\/p>\n

Which we should consider carefully, lest in the fury of the moment we allow ourselves to be persuaded to rush off a cliff.<\/p>\n
