{"id":800805,"date":"2019-10-29T11:30:01","date_gmt":"2019-10-29T17:30:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/?p=373722"},"modified":"2019-10-29T11:30:01","modified_gmt":"2019-10-29T17:30:01","slug":"letter-to-the-editor-measure-1c-to-pave-peak-7-is-wrong-and-here-is-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/local-news\/letter-to-the-editor-measure-1c-to-pave-peak-7-is-wrong-and-here-is-why\/","title":{"rendered":"Letter to the editor: Measure 1C to pave Peak 7 is wrong and here is why"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/06\/LettersWebCard-SDN1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>The petition that a \u201cself-appointed committee\u201d<br \/>\ncirculated to residents with the intent of pursuing paving on Peak 7 stated<br \/>\n$5.6 million \u201cas an absolute max for budget.\u201d After signatures were collected<br \/>\nand submitted, the budget was changed to $6.66 million or $19,704.14 per<br \/>\nproperty.<\/p>\n<p>The predetermined requirement of 60% of<br \/>\nresidents to approve the petition was changed to 55% after the petition feel<br \/>\nshort of 60%.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of paving will not come in 35% under<br \/>\nbudget as stated by the committee.<\/p>\n<p>Those who can not pay the assessment will have<br \/>\na lien placed on their property by the county until they pay.<\/p>\n<p>There are no financing options as promised by<br \/>\nthe committee in place for those needing such services.<\/p>\n<p>We have residents and retirees, many in their<br \/>\n80s and even 90s, enjoying their homes for the past 45 or more years who cannot<br \/>\nafford this expense.<\/p>\n<p>We have local workforce homeowners who can not<br \/>\nafford this.<\/p>\n<p>What about homeowners raising families that<br \/>\ncan not afford this. A single mother.<\/p>\n<p>Those with ongoing medical issues that can not<br \/>\nafford this. Treatment or paving?<\/p>\n<p>Aging utilities need to be replaced and or<br \/>\nrepaired in the near future. Why pave first?<\/p>\n<p>Vehicle speed and volume will increase through<br \/>\nthis residential neighborhood if paved.<\/p>\n<p>Those who rent on Peak 7 will see increased<br \/>\nrent as landlords recoup cost of paving.<\/p>\n<p>The committee to pave has suggested that<br \/>\nresidents who are put into hardship because of paving costs can simply go to<br \/>\nthe Family &amp; Intercultural Resource Center for assistance.
