BRECKENRIDGE \u2014 A year after seven Summit High School swimmers raced at states, Tigers swim head coach Jenny Wischmeyer is confident Summit can send another contingent to the state meet this winter.<\/p>\n

The good news for the Summit coach is that this season with a record 34 swimmers, the Tigers team has many new and younger swimmers who can learn from senior leadership.<\/p>\n

At the top of the team this winter, Summit returns state qualifiers in sophomore Abby Anderson, senior Hannah Anderson, senior Logan Simson, senior Jasmine Laube and senior Molly Nikkel.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, we broke seven school records, and there\u2019s only 12 swimming records,\u201d Wischmeyer said. \u201cLast year, we had a huge year. But with a lot of the returning strong swimmers, I think that we have the potential to do really well this year as well. And we\u2019re also really concentrating on building the underclassmen up to be leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hannah Anderson and Logan Simson will be two of the senior leaders after both are coming off different shoulder injuries. Hannah Anderson missed all of last season with her injury but expects to be 100% full-strength in a few weeks thanks to much physical therapy work. Simson says the same is true for herself after she underwent surgery.<\/p>\n

Wischmeyer said Summit\u2019s swimming strength lies in its depth as well as in middistance to sprint-distance races. The 200-meter individual medley and the 200 freestyle should be strong points for the Tigers this year, though the coach expects top results in the 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, as well.<\/p>\n

Heading into their final senior campaigns, Simson, Hannah Anderson and Nikkel are excited to go out on top after they became the first freshmen in Wischmeyer\u2019s 19 years coaching the program to qualify for a relay at states as freshmen.<\/p>\n

Simson said she\u2019s excited to see whether she can break her school records in the 200 medley relay, the 200 IM, the 200 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay. Hannah Anderson is hoping to break the 500 and 100 freestyle records this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we have some more records up there to break,\u201d Simson said. \u201cI\u2019m also aiming to break that 100 fly record. I\u2019m about two seconds off right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the diving side, in her third year as head coach, Rachel Lawlis will lean on senior captains Zoey Sicat and Lidia Szadzinski for the Tigers top scores. Lawlis and the senior duo said they expect to score in the range of 5.0 to 7.0 this year, scores that rank highly on the 10-point scale used in Colorado high school diving.<\/p>\n

Sicat said she hopes to score in the range of a 7.0 this season on a double front flip, a one-and-a-half front flip or a gainer \u2014 diving parlance for a forward-moving backflip.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor sure those two have eyes on state,\u201d Lawlis said.<\/p>\n
