The town of Severance is paying his salary.

Sanchez’s contract with Severance sunsets Dec. 31, at which point Russell Reed will step in as interim police chief. Reed is a retired lieutenant from Fort Collins Police Services, Wharton said. How long Reed stays will depend on the internal investigation into Siderfin.

Siderfin was hired in August 2018 as the first chief of the Severance Police Department. The town previously had been receiving law enforcement services on a contract basis from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

Siderfin left the Silverthorne Police Department after 14 years to take the top cop job in Severance.
