Along with the tribute, Nipsey Hussle is up for three posthumous awards, including Best Rap\/Sung Performance for DJ Khaled\u2019s \u201cHigher,\u201d which also features Legend, and Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/nipsey-hussle-songs-you-need-to-know-816299\/\">\u201cRacks in the Middle,\u201d<\/a> featuring Roddy Ricch and Hit-Boy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cRacks in the Middle\u201d was one of the last songs Nipsey Hussle released before he was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/nipsey-hussle-grammy-nominated-rapper-shot-dead-in-l-a-815476\/\">shot and killed<\/a> in Los Angeles in March 2019. The rapper notably dropped the song the day after the 2019 Grammys, where his 2018 LP, <i>Victory Lap<\/i>, had been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/nipsey-hussle-grammy-nomination-victory-lap-766211\/\">nominated for Best Rap Album<\/a>. In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/9bd95dc3c4bdfd79802495bc16c0cd49?utm_source=Twitter&amp;utm_medium=APEntertainment&amp;utm_campaign=SocialFlow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><i>The Associated Press<\/i><\/a>, Nipsey Hussle\u2019s manager Steve \u201cSteve-O\u201d Carless spoke about watching that track come full circle with its two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/lizzo-billie-eilish-lil-nas-x-2020-grammy-nominations-914858\/\">nominations<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI was really shocked by that one because we had no idea that song would get recognized,\u201d he said.\u201d[Nipsey] was so adamant about putting that song out right after the Grammys last year. The label was concerned that we didn\u2019t have enough time and runway to set it up. [Nipsey] was adamant about bypassing all the traditional [methods], upload protocols with the streaming partners and [was] all about calling everyone directly because he felt like that record was a moment for his career\u2026 and now it\u2019s nominated for two awards at the Grammys. Emotional and gratifying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In a statement, the Grammys\u2019 executive producer, Ken Ehrlich, said of the Nipsey Hussle tribute, \u201cAn activist, entrepreneur and rapper, Nipsey Hussle had a lasting impact on not just his community, but also the culture at large. There is no denying the influence he had and his legacy will be felt for generations to come. We are honored to bring together this amazing group of artists to celebrate Nipsey\u2019s life and pay tribute to his many contributions to music. It\u2019s sure to be a memorable performance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Grammys will air this Sunday, January 26th, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
