The Weeknd<\/a> chases some extreme highs and ends up with a bloody face in the new video for his single, \u201cBlinding Lights.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Directed by Anton Tammi, the clip stars the Weeknd as a lounge lizard-like fellow who bears a passing resemblance to jazz legend Herbie Hancock, circa 1978\u2019s Sunlight<\/em>. (\u201cYou\u2019re not wrong,\u201d the singer tweeted<\/a> after a fan pointed out the similarity with his afro, glasses and mustache. \u201cMust have been subconscious.\u201d) <\/span><\/p>\n

The video opens with the Weeknd laughing as blood drips down his face, then jumps back in time to show the mayhem that led to this gruesome end \u2014 the pop star speeding around a deserted city, dancing gleefully in the streets, sauntering up to a lounge singer (played by Miki Hamano) and eventually getting into a fight with a pair of bouncers. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBlinding Lights,\u201d originally teased in a Mercedes-Benz commercial, is one of two tracks the singer released in late November, along with the RS chart-topping<\/a> \u201cHeartless.\u201d<\/a> He paired the latter track with a hallucinogenic video<\/a> and performed<\/a> both singles during a two-night stand<\/a> on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Weeknd has yet to reveal whether the songs will appear on his as-yet-announced fourth LP, which follows 2016\u2019s Starboy<\/em><\/a> and 2018 EP My Dear Melancholy<\/em><\/a>. Asked on Twitter in December whether he\u2019s ever planning to release the album, he replied<\/a>, \u201cof course I am eventually.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The vocalist also collaborated with other artists in 2019: In March, he guested on Travis Scott\u2019s Astroworld<\/em><\/a> single \u201cWake Up,\u201d<\/a> and, nine months later, he made his debut feature film appearance opposite Adam Sandler in Josh and Benny Safdie\u2019s acclaimed crime-thriller Uncut Gems<\/i><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n
